SPECIAL EVENT: ART + ACTIVISM

We are thrilled to be able to bring you this important panel with Rachael Sarra, Lisa Mitchell and Mikhara Ramsing.

About Rachael:
Rachael Sarra is an artist and designer whose work is an extension of her being and experiences.  As a contemporary Aboriginal artist from Goreng Goreng Country, Rachael uses art as a powerful tool in storytelling to educate and share Aboriginal culture and it’s evolution. Rachael's work often challenges and explores the themes of societies perception of what Aboriginal art and identity is.

About Lisa:
After crash-landing into the music industry while still at school (I first came to love Lisa on Australian Idol many moons ago), Lisa Mitchell released her debut EP when she was just 17, and her second at 18; both accomplished folk pieces harbouring pop ambitions. Mitchell’s full-length debut, “Wonder”, delivered on their promise, reaching No. 6 in Australia and going Platinum.  Countless Australian, UK and European tours and festival appearances followed. With highlights such as a spot at Glastonbury, many ARIA Nominations, and winning the Australian Music Prize. Following Lisa on social media you immediately see how dedicated she is to amplifying Aboriginal voices and using her platform to raise awareness.

About Mikhara:
Mikhara Ramsing runs two social enterprises in the youth mental health space: Miks Chai a tea company that supports mental health and wellbeing, and; Ethnic LGBT+ which is Australia’s only free national website providing support, education and mentoring for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) LGBT+ individuals. Miks is passionate about creating connected and inclusive communities and in this endeavour has been recognised as a finalist for Young Australian of the Year QLD 2019 and AFR Top 100 Women of Influence. She was awarded a Westpac Social Change Fellowship enabling her to attend Harvard University focusing on creative ways to solve social problems and to work with LGBTIQ+ communities around the world, including the world’s first openly gay prince, Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil of India.

Amanda will host the chat and you'll be able to ask questions live too. We'll focus on how they got started in the work they do in the world and how we can use art and creativity to be activists in the world.
